Roundup 2026

The best After Effects extensions for 2026, sorted by job

Updated 2026-10-31 · by the mouzeclick team · Also in Español, Português (Brasil), Bahasa Indonesia

The best After Effects extensions in 2026 are the ones that remove a job you repeat: Motion Studio or the mouzeclick workspace for an everyday toolkit, Flow for easing, KBar for buttons, Duik Ángela for rigging, Overlord for design files, and Animation Composer, Motion Bro or AEJuice for ready-made content. We make mouzeclick, and say where others fit better.

  • 11 workflow tools, checked on their makers' own pages on 31 October 2026
  • Workflow panels only: effect plugins such as Trapcode or Element 3D are left out
  • Free picks: FX Console, Duik Ángela, the Motion Bro panel and Animation Composer's free plan
  • Disclosure: we make mouzeclick; it's in the list, not first, with its limits written out

How were the best After Effects extensions in this list picked?

By one test: does the tool take a job you repeat every week and make it shorter, while leaving normal After Effects layers behind? We make mouzeclick, which is in this list, so weigh our entry with that in mind. It isn't first, and its limits are written out like everyone else's.

For every other tool we read the maker's own pages on 31 October 2026 and wrote down the price as shown, the host apps, Windows and Mac support, the trial, the licence and the last dated update. Where a maker doesn't say, the table says "Not published" rather than guessing. We didn't install all eleven for this round-up, so nothing here is a speed or stability score; "good for" means what the tool's own feature list is built to do.

Two kinds of tool are left out on purpose. Effect plugins such as Trapcode Suite, Element 3D and Saber are a different buy: they make new pixels, not a faster workflow. Excalibur, often listed as an After Effects tool, is a Premiere Pro extension, so it belongs in our best Premiere Pro plugins list instead.

What counts as an After Effects extension here?

Any panel you dock to work faster, whatever its file type. Strictly speaking, an extension is an HTML panel that opens from Window › Extensions, but three tools here are something else: FX Console is a plug-in, Duik Ángela is a ScriptUI script and Overlord is a desktop app. They do the same kind of job, so they're in.

The file type still matters when you install, update or hand a project to someone else. Our explainer on plugin vs script vs extension covers .aex, .jsx and .zxp files, and what to do when a panel is missing from the menu.

Which are the best After Effects extensions in 2026?

Eleven tools, grouped by job rather than ranked by score: toolkit panels first, then single-job tools, then content libraries. Prices are as each maker's page showed them on 31 October 2026.

Which After Effects toolkit panels are worth installing?

Motion Studio if you work on a Mac or across several Adobe apps, mouzeclick if you're on Windows and want captions and presets in the same panel, and Motion Tools Pro if you'd rather pay once and build your own grid.

Motion Studio (Mt. Mograph)

The successor to Motion 4, described by its maker as "a suite of 80+ tools and 1000+ controls" (its pricing table says 110+). Anchor point snapping, inline speed-graph editing, fill and stroke colour controls, Focus groups for isolating layers, Re-Key and Emitter. The After Effects extension has the full set; Premiere Pro and Illustrator get selected tools and DaVinci Resolve gets Resolve Ease. It runs on Apple Silicon, Intel Macs and Windows on x64 or arm64.

It's subscription-only: $13 per seat a month, or $11 a month billed at $132 a year, with a 7-day trial and no card. After activation it works offline but checks the licence online every 7 days. Motion 4 is no longer sold, though existing Motion 4 lifetime licences still work for that version.

Suits: motion designers on a Mac, and anyone who wants one toolkit in four apps. On a Mac it's the obvious first look. Our Motion Studio comparison goes deeper.

mouzeclick workspace and extensions

Our own. On Windows, the mouzeclick workspace is one After Effects panel with 11 sections: 159 text presets in Type studio, 81 UI templates in Shape studio, 44 easing curves, 14 camera shakes, map rigs, a Color desk, a batch renamer and Caption studio, which transcribes on your own computer with 101 language options. A silence remover for speech layers sits in Motion lab. On Windows and Mac, the same key adds 15 After Effects extensions (mouzekit's 28 tools, mousecut's editor timeline, mouzetype, mouzecam) and a Tool wheel with 114 After Effects tools in 13 groups on any mouse.

One plan: $25 a month, $249 a year or $499 once (only the first 100 lifetime keys are sold, and a lifetime key works for as long as mouzeclick runs), with a 3-day trial and no card. The limits: the workspace is Windows only, mouzeclick needs an internet connection while it runs, there's no published minimum After Effects version, and it isn't a content library.

Suits: Windows editors who cut in Premiere Pro and finish in After Effects. The all-in-one After Effects extension guide walks through every section, and the workspace page has screenshots.

Motion Tools Pro (Motion Design School)

A "command center" grid you fill with widgets, scripts and expressions: over 30 scripts, up to four panels at once, Clone and EaseKeyframes for timing, colour palettes, anchor points, a GIF optimiser, an expression editor and a theme editor. You can drag in your own scripts. It's $40 one-time at Motion Design School or on aescripts; the aescripts version can't activate the Super3d and Motion Tweaks add-ons. Motion Design School offers a 14-day refund, and aescripts shows a free trial.

Suits: After Effects power users who already collect scripts and want them in one place, paid once.

Which single-job After Effects extensions save the most time?

Flow for easing, KBar for buttons, FX Console for finding effects, Duik Ángela for rigging and Overlord for moving design files in. Each does one job, and four of the five are free or under $40.

KBar3 (aescripts)

Up to four custom toolbars, with keyboard modifiers, whose buttons can apply effects and presets, run menu commands, open extensions, apply expressions, run scripts and even run shell commands. It has 600+ icons, and other tools export to it: Flow can send its whole curve library to KBar buttons. $39.99 for a single-user or floating licence, $20 to upgrade from KBar2. The product page lists After Effects 2022 to 2026 and doesn't state Windows or Mac.

Suits: anyone with a folder of scripts and presets who wants one click per tool. More in our KBar comparison.

Flow (aescripts)

A curve editor for keyframe easing by Zack Lovatt and renderTom. It ships with 25 common curves, handles overshoot and undershoot, applies curves as expressions, copies cubic-bezier values, and shares libraries. $35.00 one-time, with a free trial; After Effects 2020 to 2026, updated 18 October 2026.

The plain After Effects way is F9 for Easy Ease, then the Graph Editor (Shift+F3) to drag handles key by key. Flow saves you the dragging and the remembering. Our easing presets guide shows both routes.

Suits: animators who think in curves.

FX Console (Video Copilot)

A free workflow plug-in: press a shortcut, type, and apply any effect or preset. It also does effect shortcuts and overrides, PNG snapshots with a gallery, and colour sampling, in a dockable panel. Windows and Mac downloads; the latest version, 1.0.7, adds language support for After Effects 2026. Technically it's a plug-in, not an extension, and it comes with its own installer.

Suits: everyone. It costs nothing, and once it's in your fingers you stop scrolling the Effects & Presets panel.

Duik Ángela (RxLaboratorio)

The rigging and animation toolkit for After Effects: bones, auto-rigs for arms, legs, spines, tails and wings, IK and FK, and automations such as wiggle, spring, walk cycles and blinks. It's free and open source under GPL-v3; the download page asks companies for a donation but lets you skip it. It's a ScriptUI panel for After Effects 2021 and newer, on Windows and Mac, and needs "Allow Scripts to Write Files and Access Network" ticked. A 395-page printed guide costs 39€.

Suits: character animators. No toolkit panel in this list does what Duik does.

Overlord (Battle Axe)

A desktop app that moves layers between Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma and After Effects, keeping text editable with per-character styling, plus gradients and masks; Figma components arrive as Essential Graphics precomps. $75.00 USD buys a perpetual licence with a year of feature updates for two machines, and it keeps working if you don't renew. It needs the internet only for the first activation, then runs offline. Windows 10 (22H2 or later) and macOS 12 or later.

Suits: designers whose work starts in Illustrator or Figma. It complements a toolkit rather than replacing one.

Which After Effects extensions give you ready-made content?

Animation Composer if you want to start free, Motion Bro for transitions, and AEJuice if you want the most assets for one payment. All three are panels for libraries, so their value is the content behind them.

Animation Composer (Mister Horse)

A free plug-in for After Effects and Premiere Pro (Premiere Composer was renamed Animation Composer on 10 June 2026) with a preset library and four keyframe tools: Keyframe Wingman, Keyframe Actions, Anchor Point Mover and Transition Shifter. The free plan has over 1,000 assets and allows commercial use; the paid plan, $19.90 a month or $198 a year, has over 6,000. It needs After Effects or Premiere Pro 2025 or newer, runs on Mac (Apple Silicon included) and Windows, and installs through Mister Horse's Product Manager. You can be signed in on two computers, and render machines don't need the plugin. An Automatic Captions pack with "More than 130 animated captions" arrived on 29 September 2026.

Suits: beginners and editors who want polish without paying first. See our Animation Composer comparison.

Motion Bro

A free panel for After Effects 2021+ and Premiere Pro 2022+ that browses and applies Motion Bro preset packs, which you buy once: the Essential Motion Bro Transitions Bundle is $41, and a 10K transitions bundle is $112 (shown against $333). One purchase code covers two devices. Projects built with its presets open on a computer without the plugin. It installs through the Creative Cloud desktop app, a ZXP installer or by hand. One correction you'll see repeated elsewhere: Motion Bro is not a Mister Horse product; its site says "Powered by Videolancer".

Suits: editors who need transitions and quick looks. More in our Motion Bro comparison.

AEJuice I Want It All Bundle Lifetime

133 packs, 20000+ assets, 550+ categories and over 1,000 sound effects for $149 one-time, installed pack by pack through the Pack Manager app. Packs released after you buy aren't added automatically. It works natively in After Effects (CC 2015 on) and Premiere Pro, with standalone assets for Resolve, Final Cut Pro, Vegas and OBS, on Windows 10/11 and macOS 10.14+. One licence covers two computers, there's no trial but a free tier of 35 products and a 14-day money-back promise, and the licence is checked at install, not while you edit. Plan on 8 to 20 GB of disk for a typical install.

Suits: editors who need a lot of finished content at once. Our AEJuice comparison sets it against a toolkit.

Which After Effects extensions work on both Mac and Windows?

By their makers' own pages: Motion Studio, FX Console, Duik Ángela, Overlord, Animation Composer, Motion Bro and AEJuice. KBar3, Flow and Motion Tools Pro don't state an operating system on their product pages, so check the maker's FAQ or use the trial before you pay.

mouzeclick is split. Its 15 After Effects extensions, Search effects and the Tool wheel run on Windows and on macOS 12 or newer, with one key on either. The After Effects workspace, auto captions, cloud sync and in-app updates are Windows only. Mac users can follow the Mac install guide for the parts that do run there.

Which are free, and which are one-time or subscription?

Four start free, five are paid once, and only Motion Studio is subscription-only. Several mix models, so read the row, not the headline.

  • Free: Duik Ángela (open source), FX Console, the Motion Bro plugin, and Animation Composer's free plan.
  • Paid once: Flow $35.00, KBar3 $39.99, Motion Tools Pro $40, Overlord $75.00 with a year of updates, AEJuice's bundle $149, and Motion Bro's packs.
  • Subscription: Motion Studio ($132 a year), Animation Composer's paid plan ($198 a year) and AEJuice's All Access (from $7 a month, headline).
  • mouzeclick: $25 a month, $249 a year, or $499 once for one of the first 100 lifetime keys. Its price also covers the mouse app and the Premiere Pro tools, so compare it with what you'd buy for both apps, not After Effects alone. Plans are on the pricing section.

Over two or three years, one-time tools win on price, as long as the maker keeps updating them. Check the last dated update in the table before you count on that.

Which After Effects extensions help video editors, not just motion designers?

The ones that also run in Premiere Pro, or that handle the editor's jobs inside After Effects: captions, cutting pauses, resizing for platforms.

  • Both apps: Animation Composer, Motion Bro and AEJuice put their content in Premiere Pro as well. Motion Studio has selected tools there. mouzeclick has a Premiere Pro workspace (Windows only), eight Premiere Pro extensions and a 112-tool Premiere Pro Tool wheel.
  • Captions in After Effects: AEJuice sells Auto Captions separately ($19 a month as shown), Mister Horse added an Automatic Captions pack in September 2026, and mouzeclick's Caption studio transcribes on your own computer inside the Windows workspace.
  • Silence: mouzeclick's workspace has a silence remover for speech layers in After Effects; on the Premiere side, see our best Premiere Pro plugins list.
  • Resizing for platforms: plain After Effects means duplicating the comp and changing Composition Settings one size at a time. mouzeclick's Comp resizer changes size, duration and frame rate for several comps at once, and its mouzeresize extension turns one comp into every format (9:16, 1:1, 4:5, 16:9 and more).

Which After Effects extensions should you combine?

Most people end up with one toolkit, one or two single-job tools and, maybe, one content library. Three setups that make sense, depending on where you sit:

  • Free kit: FX Console for effects, Duik Ángela if you animate characters, and Animation Composer's free plan for presets. Total cost: nothing.
  • Mac motion designer: Motion Studio as the toolkit, Flow for curves, Overlord if your designs start in Illustrator or Figma. Motion Studio lists native Apple Silicon builds and Overlord runs on macOS 12 or later; Flow's page doesn't state a platform, so use its trial.
  • Windows editor who cuts in Premiere Pro: the mouzeclick workspace for captions, silence, text presets and templates in After Effects, its Premiere Pro tools for the cut, and Motion Bro or AEJuice if clients want ready-made transitions.

Don't stack two toolkits. Motion Studio and the mouzeclick workspace overlap on anchors, easing and layer tools, and two panels doing the same job is how a workspace gets cluttered again. Trial both, keep one.

Will these After Effects extensions still work in After Effects 2026?

The ones whose makers list 2026 do: aescripts lists KBar3 and Motion Tools Pro for After Effects 2022 to 2026, Flow for 2020 to 2026, and FX Console 1.0.7 adds After Effects 2026 language support. Animation Composer needs 2025 or newer.

Watch two things. First, the last dated update: a panel nobody has touched in two years is a risk on a new After Effects. Second, the extensions menu itself. Some recent builds label it Window › Extensions (Legacy), and a July 2026 Adobe Community bug report describes new CEP extensions not appearing in After Effects 26.3; it had no Adobe reply when we checked. The missing-extension checklist covers what to try.

Test the mouzeclick workspace next to the tools you already use. One plan with everything included, $25 a month, or $249 for a year.

Questions people ask

What is the best free After Effects extension?

For most people, FX Console: it's free, tiny and changes how you apply effects from day one. Character animators should add Duik Ángela, which is free and open source. If you want content, Animation Composer's free plan has over 1,000 assets with commercial use allowed, and the Motion Bro panel is free, though its packs are paid.

Which After Effects extension should a beginner install first?

Start with FX Console and Animation Composer's free plan: one makes effects quick to find, the other gives you presets to pull apart and learn from. Add a toolkit such as Motion Studio or the mouzeclick workspace once you notice the same chores every day. Both have trials (7 days and 3 days, no card), so test on a real project.

Is AEJuice worth it?

If you need a lot of ready-made content, the I Want It All Bundle Lifetime is good value: $149 once for 133 packs and 20000+ assets, on two computers. It isn't a toolkit, and packs released after you buy aren't included. There's no trial, but there is a free tier of 35 products and a 14-day money-back promise.

Is Motion Bro made by Mister Horse?

No. Motion Bro's own site reads "Powered by Videolancer", its help articles are posted by Videolancer, and it isn't on Mister Horse's product pages. Mister Horse makes Animation Composer, the new name for Premiere Composer since June 2026. The two are easy to mix up because both are free panels that sell preset content.

What is the difference between a plugin and an extension in After Effects?

A plugin is compiled code, an .aex file on Windows, that adds effects and runs at render time, so every machine that renders needs it. An extension is an HTML panel, usually installed from a .zxp, that you open from Window › Extensions and that drives After Effects' own commands. Our plugin vs script vs extension explainer has the full table.

Can I still buy Motion 4?

No. Mt. Mograph replaced it with Motion Studio, which is subscription-only at $13 per seat a month or $132 a year. Existing Motion 4 lifetime licences keep working for that version. Motion Studio adds a standalone app and tools for Premiere Pro, Illustrator and DaVinci Resolve.

Are paid After Effects extensions worth the money?

A paid extension earns its price when it removes a job you do every week. Count the jobs: if a $35 easing tool or a $39.99 toolbar replaces ten minutes of fiddling on every project, it pays back fast. If you'd use it twice a year, a free tool or the plain After Effects way is fine. Trials exist for exactly this test.

Why is mouzeclick in a list written by mouzeclick?

Because leaving it out would be odd on our own site, and hiding it would be worse. It's second in the toolkit group, not first, and its entry lists the limits: the workspace is Windows only, it needs an internet connection while it runs, and it isn't a content library. Every other entry uses the maker's own published facts, linked below.
