How to make Hinglish captions in Premiere Pro

Updated 2026-10-31 · by the mouzeclick team · Also in Español, Português (Brasil), Bahasa Indonesia

Premiere Pro can't make Hinglish captions on its own: Adobe's Speech to Text lists Hindi but not Hinglish. On Windows, mouzeclick Studio adds Hinglish (Roman letters) to the language list. Whisper writes your Hindi-English speech on your computer the way people type it, one spelling per word, and leaves English words in English. You read the captions through, fix any word, then create them.

  • Studio › Captions › Language › Hinglish (Roman letters). Hindi (Devanagari) is a separate choice.
  • Hinglish uses the Accurate model, about 190 MB, downloaded once.
  • One spelling per word; English words are never changed.
  • Replace all and Remember this fix carry your corrections into every new transcript.
  • Windows only for now. Your audio stays on your computer.

Does Premiere Pro support Hinglish captions?

No. Adobe's Speech to Text transcribes 18 languages and Hindi is one of them, but Hinglish isn't on the list. A request for it on Adobe's Premiere Pro ideas board, posted on 11 September 2025, still read "Open for Voting" with 7 votes when we checked on 31 October 2026.

Without it, editors caption the clip as Hindi or English and retype what comes out, run it through a separate tool and import an SRT, or type every caption by hand. The person who posted the request said editors have to use several tools to get the result they want.

What is the difference between Hinglish and Hindi captions?

Hinglish captions write mixed Hindi and English speech in Roman letters, the way people type in chats and comments. Hindi captions write the words in Devanagari. Same sentence, two scripts:

Language choiceWhat you getExample
Hinglish (Roman letters)Hindi and English mixed, in Roman letters, one spelling per word, English words left in Englishmain aaj bahut khush hoon
Hindi (Devanagari)Hindi in Devanagari scriptमैं आज बहुत खुश हूँ

Pick by audience. For Reels and Shorts aimed at viewers who text in Hinglish, Roman letters are what they type themselves, and they are the better default for talking-head videos in mixed speech. For a news-style piece, a devotional video or viewers who read Devanagari every day, choose Hindi. Not sure? Read the comments under the creator's last ten posts. People show you which script they read by the one they type.

How do I make Hinglish captions in Premiere Pro, step by step?

Open mouzeclick Studio's Captions tab, set the Language to Hinglish (Roman letters), transcribe, read the captions through, then create them.

  1. Cut first. Remove pauses with the silence remover and restarts with Retakes, so the captions match the finished timeline.
  2. Open Window › Extensions › mouzeclick Studio and click Captions.
  3. Under Listen to, choose the selected clips or a whole audio track. Pick the voice, not the music.
  4. Set Language to Hinglish (Roman letters). The Model switches to Accurate by itself, because Hinglish is written by that model. It is about 190 MB and downloads the first time.
  5. In Spell right, type the names it must get right: the creator, the brand, a product. Use plain Roman letters; other scripts are left out of this field.
  6. Press Transcribe. You can keep editing while it works.
  7. Read every caption. Double-click one to fix it; marked words are the ones Whisper was unsure of.
  8. Choose Subtitles, Short, Social or Word by word, then Caption track or Styled on the video, and press the button under the list.

The same flow, with model choices and preset numbers, is in our guide to auto captions in Premiere Pro.

What does one spelling per word mean in Hinglish captions?

Each Hindi word is written the same way every time it appears, so "accha" doesn't turn into "acha" three captions later.

Roman Hindi has no fixed spelling. One word shows up as accha, acha or achha, another as bahut or bohot, another as nahi or nahin, depending on who types it. Left alone, a transcript can spell the same word two ways in one video, and viewers notice. mouzeclick writes one spelling per word throughout, such as accha, thoda, bahut, pehle and nahi. English words are never changed: in "accha, thoda zoom karte hain", the word zoom stays English.

Prefer another spelling, say bohot instead of bahut? Fix it once with Replace all and tick Remember this fix. Every new transcript then uses your spelling, so a channel keeps one house style across hundreds of videos.

How do I fix words the Hinglish captions get wrong?

Double-click the caption and type the fix. For a word that is wrong everywhere, use Find a word, Replace with and Replace all, and tick Remember this fix: every new transcript gets the same correction by itself.

  • Names and brands. Put them in Spell right before you transcribe. After that, one remembered fix covers the rest; mouzeclick's own example turns "mouse click" into "mouzeclick" in every later transcript.
  • A word in the wrong language. Fix one instance, then Replace all if it repeats.
  • Music under the voice. Transcribe the dialogue track only, and leave Drop [Music] and other sound notes switched on.
  • A whole clip in the wrong script. Check the Language menu. Detect it guesses from the audio and can settle on Hindi or English for mixed speech; set Hinglish yourself.
  • Captions drift after a re-cut. Transcribe again. A transcript belongs to the timeline it was made from.

Can I translate Hinglish captions into English?

Not in the same pass. With Hinglish picked, Translate to English is greyed out: Hinglish stays as it was said.

For English subtitles of the same video, transcribe a second time with the Language on Hindi or Detect it and Translate to English ticked, on the Fast or Accurate model; Best cannot translate. You end up with two caption sets: Hinglish styled on the Reel, and English saved as an .srt for YouTube's subtitle upload. Read the English set as carefully as the Hinglish one, because a translation can be fluent and still wrong.

How do I style Hinglish captions for Reels and Shorts?

Choose Styled on the video, then a look from the Indian & multilingual family or any of the 289 looks in 27 families, with the Social or Word by word preset for short lines.

Roman Hinglish works in any Latin font, from Montserrat and Anton to Bebas Neue. For Devanagari, mouzeclick's caption fonts include Hind, Mukta and Noto Sans Devanagari, with looks such as Devanagari bounce. Styled captions are drawn into pictures, so Premiere needs none of these fonts installed. Boxes in place of Devanagari on Premiere's own caption track mean the track's font has no Devanagari letters; switch the track to a Devanagari font installed on your computer.

On vertical video, keep the words out of the bottom 20 to 35% of the frame (Shorts to Reels, in mouzeclick's presets), where the apps draw their own buttons and text. The safe zone guides in Premiere Pro show exactly where, per app.

Is my audio uploaded when I make Hinglish captions?

No. Whisper runs on your computer, and after the Accurate model downloads once, your audio never leaves the machine. mouzeclick itself needs an internet connection while it runs, for your licence, so you stay online even though the transcription is local.

Which other mouzeclick tools write Hinglish captions?

Two more, both Windows only. The Caption studio in the mouzeclick workspace for Premiere Pro offers 40 language options, Hinglish in Roman letters among them, plus a Roman script switch for Hindi, and its Word Pop mode turns each word into its own text clip. Its two speech models for Indian languages may first ask you to accept their publisher's access terms before they download. In After Effects, the workspace's Caption studio has Auto Detect, Hinglish and 99 named languages and can write Hindi in Roman letters: see auto captions in After Effects. All of it comes with the same plan as the Premiere Pro tools.

Is there a free way to make Hinglish captions, or one that works on Mac?

Yes: Capkit, a free plugin from Smallest AI, says it captions "15+ languages, including Hinglish" and works with Premiere and After Effects 26.x. Its page doesn't say whether it runs on Mac or Windows, or whether audio is processed on your computer. If you edit on a Mac or want to spend nothing, try it first.

mouzeclick's Hinglish captions are Windows only for now; on a Mac, the app gives you the mouse wheels and buttons, not captions (see the Mac page). On Windows, mouzeclick covers the rest of the job: transcription that stays on your PC, fixes it remembers, 289 styled looks, and one plan that also includes the silence remover and the After Effects tools.

Caption your next Hinglish video without retyping it. One plan with everything included, $25 a month, or $249 for a year.

Questions people ask

Is Hinglish the same as Romanized Hindi?

Close, but not quite. Romanized Hindi is Hindi written in Roman letters. Hinglish is how many people actually speak: Hindi and English mixed in one sentence. mouzeclick's Hinglish option handles both halves, writing the Hindi words in Roman letters with one spelling each and leaving the English words as English.

Which speech model does Hinglish use?

The Accurate model, about 190 MB. Picking Hinglish in the Language menu switches the Model to Accurate by itself. It downloads once, the first time, and then runs on your computer. You don't choose Fast or Best for Hinglish, and nothing is uploaded.

Will it change the English words in my Hinglish speech?

No. English words are never changed: words like zoom, clip and music come out as English while the Hindi around them is written in Roman letters. If a word lands in the wrong language, fix it with a double-click, or with Replace all and Remember this fix if it keeps happening.

Can I still get Hindi captions in Devanagari?

Yes. Hindi (Devanagari) is its own choice in the same Language menu, next to Hinglish. For styled captions, Hindi fonts such as Hind, Mukta and Noto Sans Devanagari come with mouzeclick's caption fonts, and Premiere needs none of them installed because the captions are drawn as pictures.

Can I save Hinglish captions as an SRT file?

Yes. Save .srt in the Captions tab writes the Hinglish captions as a subtitle file, and Save text writes a plain transcript. Use the SRT for YouTube's subtitle upload or a client handoff, and keep styled captions for the picture itself.

How accurate are the Hinglish captions?

We don't publish an accuracy figure for Hinglish. Mixed speech varies too much between speakers, microphones and topics for one number to mean much, so expect to read every caption. Clean dialogue on its own track helps most, and Remember this fix stops the same mistake coming back in the next video.

Does Premiere's own Speech to Text at least do Hindi?

Yes. Hindi is one of the 18 languages Adobe lists for Speech to Text, and once the language pack is installed it works offline from Premiere 22.2. What Adobe doesn't list is Hinglish in Roman letters, which is what most creators who speak a Hindi-English mix need on screen.

What does mouzeclick cost for Hinglish captions?

Hinglish isn't sold separately. There is one plan with everything included: $25 a month, $249 for a year or $499 for a lifetime key, billed in rupees in India. Try it free for 3 days with no card, and a creator or friend code takes 10% off a new customer's first 30-day or 1-year payment. See the plan or the store page.
