Animation Composer alternative: mouzeclick vs Mister Horse's free plugin
Animation Composer, Mister Horse's plugin for After Effects and Premiere Pro, is free with over 1,000 assets and 4 time-saving tools; $19.90 a month or $198 a year opens over 6,000 assets. mouzeclick is an Animation Composer alternative for a different job: workflow tools such as silence removal, captions, easing curves, an anchor grid and a mouse Tool wheel. For assets, Animation Composer is the better buy.
- Disclosure: mouzeclick publishes this page and makes one of the two tools. No affiliate links.
- Premiere Composer was renamed Animation Composer on 10 June 2026; one name now covers the After Effects and Premiere Pro plugins
- Mister Horse prices are as misterhorse.com showed them on 31 Oct 2026
- Animation Composer has a free plan with no end date; mouzeclick has a 3-day trial with no card, and its workspaces are Windows only
What is Animation Composer, and what happened to Premiere Composer?
Animation Composer is Mister Horse's free plugin for After Effects and Premiere Pro: a browser for a library of animated titles, transitions, text presets, graphic components and sound effects, plus 4 time-saving tools. On 10 June 2026 Mister Horse renamed Premiere Composer to Animation Composer, so one name and one interface now cover both apps.
- Versions: After Effects 2025 or newer, Premiere Pro 2025 or newer, on Mac and Windows, with Apple Silicon supported.
- Install: through the Mister Horse Product Manager desktop app, which also installs updates.
- Account: a Mister Horse account, logged in on up to 2 computers at a time.
- The 4 tools: Keyframe Wingman, Keyframe Actions, Anchor Point Mover and Transition Shifter, the same 4 on the free and paid plans.
- Your own files: browse your project files, compositions, MOGRTs, footage and audio inside the panel, up to 500 items free and unlimited on a paid plan.
- Rendering: the plugin doesn't have to be installed on a render machine, and animations keep working if it's uninstalled.
- Newest pack: Automatic Captions, added 29 September 2026, with more than 130 animated captions.
Mister Horse says the After Effects plugin is used by more than 1,000,000 motion designers and the Premiere version by more than 500,000 video editors, and it publishes its own tutorials for both apps.
How do Animation Composer and mouzeclick compare?
Animation Composer is a free asset browser with a paid library behind it; mouzeclick is a paid plan of tools with a small shelf of presets. As each maker's page showed it on 31 October 2026:
| Checked 31 Oct 2026 | Animation Composer | mouzeclick |
|---|---|---|
| Price as shown | Free plan; Annual plan $16.50 a month ($198 billed yearly); Monthly plan $19.90 a month | $25 a month, $249 a year, or $499 once for one of the first 100 lifetime keys |
| Free option | A free plan with no end date; commercial use allowed | A 3-day trial, no card |
| What you get | Free: over 1,000 assets, 4 tools, a 500-item user library. Paid: over 6,000 assets, the same 4 tools, an unlimited user library | A mouse app, a Tool wheel, 22 extensions and, on Windows, two workspaces; the After Effects one alone holds 800+ tools, presets and templates |
| Host apps | After Effects 2025+ and Premiere Pro 2025+ | Panels in After Effects and Premiere Pro; the mouse app works in any app. No minimum Adobe version published |
| Windows / Mac | Both; Apple Silicon supported | Windows 10 and 11, macOS 12 or newer. Workspaces, auto captions and Retakes are Windows only |
| Seats | Up to 2 computers logged in at a time | One key, one computer at a time, Windows or Mac |
| Install | Mister Horse Product Manager app | The mouzeclick app installs its panels and keeps them up to date |

| Refunds | Possible under the conditions in its Refunds & Returns policy | None after payment; a full refund if it doesn't work on your computer and can't be fixed within 7 days |
| Paying once | No one-time option; owners of older perpetual licences get a discount on an annual plan | A lifetime key, for the first 100 buyers only |
Is the free plan enough, or do you need an Animation Composer alternative?
For a lot of editors the free plan is enough, and it's the first plugin we'd tell a beginner to install. Over 1,000 assets, the 4 tools and a 500-item user library cost nothing, and Mister Horse lets you use the free version in the same scope as the paid one, commercial work included.
Notice what the paid plan adds: assets. The free and paid plans share the same 4 tools; $198 a year buys over 6,000 assets instead of over 1,000, and an unlimited user library. So free versus paid is purely a question of how much content you need.
You need an Animation Composer alternative, rather than its paid plan, when what you're missing isn't content:
- More than 4 tools for anchors, keyframes, precomps and layers.
- Cleanup on real footage: pauses, retakes, captions in the language your client actually speaks.
- Commands on your mouse instead of in another panel you have to dock somewhere.
How do Animation Composer's tools compare with mouzeclick's?
Animation Composer has 4 tools; mouzeclick has far fewer assets and far more tools: 114 on the After Effects Tool wheel, 28 in mouzekit, and on Windows 800+ tools, presets and templates in the After Effects workspace. Mister Horse describes its 4 in a line each: Keyframe Wingman for easing keyframes, Keyframe Actions for common keyframe jobs, Anchor Point Mover to reposition anchors without breaking the animation, and Transition Shifter to edit its own transitions. Here is the plain After Effects way next to the mouzeclick way for those jobs and a few more:
| Job | After Effects alone | mouzeclick |
|---|---|---|
| Move the anchor point | Drag it with the Pan Behind tool, or Layer › Transform › Center Anchor Point in Layer Content | Toolbox anchor grid: nine buttons for the corners, edge midpoints and centre (Windows). The After Effects Tool wheel has an anchor grid too (Windows and Mac) |
| Ease keyframes | Animation › Keyframe Assistant › Easy Ease, then drag handles in the Graph Editor | Easing lab: 21 Def and 23 Base curves in six types (Bezier, Spline, Elastic, Bounce, Wave, Steps), exportable as .mzgraph (Windows). mouzerun Ease buttons on Mac too |
| Edit transforms | Twirl open each layer's Transform group, or press P, S, R, T or A to reveal one property | Toolbox live Transform: scrub Anchor Point, Position, Scale, Rotation and Opacity, and step between keyframes on each row (Windows) |
| Rig a wiggle or a trail | Alt-click a stopwatch and write the expression yourself | mouzekit rigs: Wiggle, Trail, Ring, Layout, Chain, Radial, Squash, with settings in Effect Controls (Windows and Mac). mouzeexpr: 24 ready expressions, Bake turns them into keys |
| Precompose each layer separately | Layer › Pre-compose, once per layer | Precomp sep in the Toolbox, one press for the whole selection (Windows) |
| Keep your own looks | Animation › Save Animation Preset, then find it in Effects & Presets | Library: Comp Saver with GIF previews, FFX presets in folders, an asset library shared with Premiere Pro (Windows) |
For your own MOGRTs, footage and audio in one browser, Animation Composer's user library is the better fit. For the rest, the guides go deeper: the anchor point tool, easing presets and precomposing each layer. The whole After Effects panel is on the workspace page.
How do you animate a title in each one?
Every route below gets you a moving title; they differ in how much you build yourself.
- After Effects alone: open the Effects & Presets panel › Animation Presets › Text and drag a preset onto your text layer, or build one with the text layer's Animate menu and a Range Selector. Full control, slow the first time.
- Premiere Pro alone: use Adobe's own Motion Graphics templates (MOGRTs) and edit the text fields.
- Animation Composer: pick an animated title from its library and adjust it. This is what it's built for, and the free plan already has over 1,000 assets.
- mouzeclick, Type studio (After Effects workspace, Windows): 159 text animation and expression presets in six groups: Text Animator 28, SaaS 11, Stagger 54, Multi 24, Text 20 and Motion 22. Hover over one and the preview follows your mouse; double-click to apply it to your own text layer.
- mouzeclick, mouzetype (Windows and Mac): 17 kinetic type styles applied as real After Effects text animators, so Faster or Slower retimes them later without starting again.
The difference that matters: Animation Composer drops in a designed title, and mouzeclick animates the text layer you already styled. The After Effects text animation presets guide compares both approaches in detail.
Where is Animation Composer the better pick?
Animation Composer is the better pick for anyone who wants finished assets, wants to start free, or works on a Mac.
- Free, with no end date. Over 1,000 assets and 4 tools, commercial use allowed. mouzeclick's trial is 3 days.
- More assets. Over 6,000 on the paid plan. mouzeclick's presets number in the hundreds.
- Lower price outside India. $198 a year against $249 a year for mouzeclick, and $19.90 a month against $25.
- Hand-offs and render machines. Projects render without the plugin installed.
- Two computers. Two logged in at once, against one for a mouzeclick key.
- A Mac. The whole product runs on Mac, including Apple Silicon. mouzeclick's workspaces and auto captions are Windows only.
- Your own library. MOGRTs, footage and sound effects in one browser in both apps.
When is mouzeclick the better Animation Composer alternative?
When the bottleneck is the work around the assets. These are the jobs mouzeclick covers that Animation Composer's pages don't describe:
- A real toolkit in After Effects: mouzekit's 28 tools in seven groups, the Toolbox, Easing lab, and mousecut, an editor's timeline inside your comp. mouzerun lets you build your own buttons for scripts, expressions, presets, menu commands and eases.
- Footage cleanup in Premiere Pro: mouzeclick Studio's Silence tab (Windows and Mac), plus Captions and Retakes (Windows). Captions are written on your computer in 47 languages, and Hinglish comes out in Roman letters the way people type it; see the Hinglish captions guide.
- Premiere timeline tools: Unnest, Spread and Close synced, Close all gaps, Fill frame. The Premiere Pro tools page shows each one.
- Point-and-click grading: mouzegrade, with waveform, RGB parade, vectorscope and histogram, in both apps.
- Your mouse: a Tool wheel with 114 After Effects tools in 13 groups and 112 Premiere Pro tools, plus per-app buttons and gestures, on any mouse. All 22 extensions are listed on the extensions page.
Can you use Animation Composer and mouzeclick together?
Yes, and with Animation Composer free there's little reason not to. Keep it for titles, transitions and sound effects from its library, and use mouzeclick for the cut, the cleanup and the repeated moves between them.
One practical tip: Animation Composer's assets keep working without the plugin, and some mouzeclick tools (mouzetype, mouzestate, mouzegrade) write ordinary Adobe text animators, keyframes and effects. Stick to those for anything you hand to another editor.
If what you want is a bigger toolkit that also runs on a Mac, read the Motion Studio comparison. If it's more assets, the AEJuice comparison covers a much larger library.
Do Animation Composer and mouzeclick run on Mac?
Animation Composer runs on Mac and Windows, Apple Silicon included. mouzeclick runs on macOS 12 or newer, without some parts.
- On Mac: the mouse app, wheels and gestures, the Tool wheels, Search effects, Studio's Silence, Timeline and Guides tabs, and all 22 extensions, including mouzekit, mouzetype and mouzerun.
- Windows only: both workspaces (so Type studio, Easing lab and the Toolbox), auto, styled and Hinglish captions, Retakes, cloud sync and in-app updates.
- First launch: Apple hasn't notarized the Mac app yet, so macOS asks you to allow it once; the Mac install guide shows the steps.
Prices for every plan are in the pricing section.
Keep Animation Composer and try mouzeclick's tools beside it for 3 days. One plan with everything included, $25 a month, or $249 for a year.
Questions people ask
Is Animation Composer free for commercial use?
Yes. Mister Horse says you can use the free version in the same scope as the paid versions, which includes client work. The free plan gives over 1,000 assets and the 4 tools. mouzeclick has no free plan; its 3-day trial with no card is meant for testing on real projects before you pay.
Is Premiere Composer the same as Animation Composer?
Yes. Mister Horse renamed Premiere Composer to Animation Composer on 10 June 2026, so the Premiere Pro and After Effects plugins now share one name and one interface. Mister Horse calls it the same plug-in with new features and polish. You update it through the Mister Horse Product Manager app.
Do I need Animation Composer installed to render a project?
No. Mister Horse says the plugins aren't needed for rendering and animations keep working if they're uninstalled. With mouzeclick it depends on the tool: mouzetype adds real After Effects text animators, mouzestate writes Premiere's own keyframes and mouzegrade writes an ordinary colour effect, so those results don't need mouzeclick to play.
Which After Effects version does Animation Composer need?
After Effects 2025 or newer, and Premiere Pro 2025 or newer for the Premiere version, so anyone on a 2024 or older install has to upgrade first. mouzeclick doesn't publish a minimum Adobe version, so test it with the 3-day trial on the exact version you edit in.
On how many computers can I use each one?
Animation Composer lets you stay logged in on up to 2 computers at a time and manage them from your Mister Horse account. A mouzeclick key runs on one computer at a time, Windows or Mac; release the old computer from your account page or inside the app to move it.
Which costs less per year?
Outside India, Animation Composer. Its annual plan was $198 on 31 October 2026, against $249 for a year of mouzeclick, and its monthly plan $19.90 against $25. In India mouzeclick is billed in rupees, so compare the two at today's exchange rate. A creator or friend code takes 10% off a new customer's first mouzeclick 30-day or 1-year payment.
Does Animation Composer make automatic captions?
Mister Horse added an Automatic Captions pack on 29 September 2026 with more than 130 animated captions. Premiere Pro does the transcribing, and you pick a style from the pack. mouzeclick's captions are written on your computer by Whisper in 47 languages, Hinglish included, on Windows only.
Does mouzeclick install through Creative Cloud or a ZXP?
Neither. The mouzeclick app installs its own panels: press Install Premiere bridge or Install After Effects bridge on the Tool wheel page, restart the editor, then open any panel from Window › Extensions. The workspaces install themselves on Windows. Animation Composer uses Mister Horse's Product Manager app in the same way.
