Motion Bro problems on Reddit, and the fixes that worked
Across 17 Reddit threads from 2024 to 2026, mostly in r/premiere, Motion Bro comes up as a help request rather than a debate. One poster praises a free transition pack; the rest report Premiere freezing, footage shifting, a generic import error and missing pack files. No thread weighs whether it's worth buying. The two fixes confirmed to work are Link Media for missing footage and running as administrator for a Corrupted Package error.
- 17 threads in r/premiere, r/AfterEffects and r/VideoEditing, January 2024 to October 2026; 34 comments after removing bots
- Nearly every thread is a help request; only 2 have more than 3 comments
- Most reported: Premiere freezing, missing-footage presets, the generic import error, footage shifting
- Confirmed fixes: Link Media and running as administrator; selecting both clips first is suggested for the import error
- We make mouzeclick, which has its own transitions; no thread mentions it
How did we read Reddit's Motion Bro threads?
We searched post titles for motion bro and motionbro in r/AfterEffects, r/premiere and r/VideoEditing from 1 January 2024 to 31 October 2026, using the Arctic Shift archive of Reddit. Searches in r/AfterEffects kept timing out, so we split them into date windows that together cover the whole range. That found 18 threads; one removed piracy post was dropped, leaving 17. We read all 14 threads with replies: 45 comments, 34 once bot replies were removed.
Be clear about what that sample can tell you. Nearly every thread is a help request, only two have more than three comments, and the comments that mention Motion Bro add up to a score of 8. Nobody compares Motion Bro with alternatives at length or says whether it's worth the money. So this page maps the problems people hit and the fixes that worked; it isn't a popularity contest. Two comments were written in Spanish, and we paraphrase them in English.
Several threads predate the current plugin: posts mention versions 4.5.0 and 5.1.0, while Motion Bro's plugin page listed 7.3.4 on 31 October 2026, so some problems may be fixed. We're not affiliated with Reddit or Motion Bro. We make mouzeclick, which has its own transition tools, so we're a competitor; our Motion Bro comparison covers prices and licences.
What comes up most in the Motion Bro threads?
Motion Bro itself, its free packs and its AI Parallax plugin. Everything else is named once or twice. Counts come from our tally script over the 17 threads and 34 comments.
| Product | Threads | Mentions | Comment score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Motion Bro (any mention) | 17 | 23 | 8 |
| Motion Bro free packs (Light, Stretch, MacFX) | 4 | 4 | 2 |
| Motion Bro .mrb packs / extension panel | 3 | 3 | 0 |
| Motion Bro AI Parallax | 2 | 4 | 2 |
| Mister Horse / Premiere Composer | 2 | 2 | 2 |
| AE Face Tools (installed through Motion Bro) | 2 | 2 | 0 |
| Film Impact | 1 | 2 | 4 |
A mention is one post or comment that names the product; the score adds up those comments' Reddit scores as the archive captured them. Seven more products (BadFX, AtomX, MyFX, Motion Factory, Boris FX, Maxon Red Giant and ProductionCrate) appear once each, all in a single comment listing alternatives. Mister Horse comes up once because one poster removed its control surface while troubleshooting; the other mention is Premiere Composer in that list of alternatives. With numbers this small, the table shows what people asked about, not what they prefer.
What do Reddit users complain about with Motion Bro?
Stability in Premiere Pro first, then files that aren't where the plugin expects them. Each of these comes up in one or two threads:
- Premiere freezes after a transition is applied, in two separate threads (on 5.1.0, a later one).
- Damaged sequences. A commenter writing in Spanish says some effects don't trigger and that it has wiped the timeline mid-process, with undo no help (comment).
- Footage moving. After a transition, one editor's clip shifted sideways and bounced back when it ended; they wondered whether the vertical format was to blame (thread).
- Missing-footage placeholders on presets, because some assets aren't where the plugin looks for them (comment).
- A generic import error when applying the free Stretch and MacFX presets (thread).
- Install and panel problems: a Corrupted Package error on install (post), a panel that shows as enabled but doesn't open (thread), and a free Light Transitions pack with no .mrb file to install (thread).
- Memory. One r/VideoEditing post asked whether the plugin makes Premiere use a lot more RAM; AutoModerator removed it before anyone answered (post).
- No reply from support, mentioned by two posters (one, another).
In After Effects the complaints are about packs and add-ons installed through Motion Bro: the HST transitions pack rendering broken even on the legacy expression engine (thread), AE Face Tools effects staying locked with nowhere to enter the purchase code (thread), and a face-replacement comp landing in the top-left corner (thread).
Why does Premiere Pro freeze or lose the timeline with Motion Bro?
Nobody on Reddit pinned down one cause, but two commenters point in a similar direction: trouble on clips that already carry effects, and on heavily worked sequences. One says it won't work when the footage uses effects such as distort or wiggle (comment). Another, writing in Spanish, says it behaves best in new, lightly edited sequences, and that when they expect trouble they build the effect in a separate project, export it and carry on in the original (comment).
The poster on 5.1.0 selected both clips, pressed apply, and Premiere froze as soon as the transition reported finished (thread). In the other thread, removing a Mister Horse control surface let two transitions through before the freezes came back (thread). Neither got a confirmed fix; replies pointed to Motion Bro's Discord and its support page (Discord, support).
Our own advice, not Reddit's: save before you apply a pack you haven't used, because one commenter found undo didn't bring a wiped timeline back. If it keeps happening, our best Premiere Pro plugins list has other transition tools.
Which Motion Bro fixes from Reddit actually worked?
Two fixes got a confirmed result, and two more are worth a try.
- Missing footage in a preset: use Link Media. In Premiere, right-click the broken preset, choose Link Media and point it at the matching .aegraphic file in the pack's folder under Documents › Motion Bro (folder, fix). The thread was marked solved, and a follow-up says you only do it once per preset (comment).
- The generic importer error: try selecting both clips first. A commenter says the error appears when you drop a preset straight onto the timeline; select the two clips, then apply (comment). The poster never replied, so it's unconfirmed.
- Corrupted Package on install: run as administrator. One poster lost a day to this error, then fixed it by starting After Effects or Premiere Pro with Run as administrator on Windows (post).
- Footage shifting after a transition: check the effect's length. One reply suggests the effect doesn't cover the whole transition; drag it out so its keyframes run past the cut (comment). The poster didn't confirm it.
For the panel that won't open and the missing .mrb file, Reddit offered nothing beyond contacting support. Our plugin vs script vs extension explainer has a checklist for After Effects panels missing from Window › Extensions.
What can Motion Bro AI Parallax do, and what can't it?
It fakes depth from one photo, which works for small moves only. In the longest thread in our set (12 comments), a buyer applied the effect, couldn't get it onto the timeline, exported a GLB file instead and found it full of artefacts in After Effects (thread). The most useful reply explains why: "This plug-in doesn't create an actual 3D model" (comment). It projects the image onto a depth map, so a slight parallax is fine but any real push-in distorts. Another commenter wonders whether a stylised picture gave the plugin too little depth to read (comment).
The day before that thread, another post asked where to find the plugin in After Effects after installing it; it got no answer (post).
The by-hand route a commenter gave: separate the elements in Photoshop and paint out the background, import them, make the layers 3D, add a camera, move some layers closer in Z and animate the camera (comment). It takes longer, but every layer stays under your control.
Is Motion Bro worth it, according to Reddit?
Reddit doesn't say. None of the 17 threads weighs Motion Bro against alternatives or argues about price, so any verdict would be ours, not Reddit's. The positive signals are small: one editor found that "the free transitions pack made adding transitions to my videos incredibly easy" (post), and another came back to Motion Bro after a break (post).
Motion Bro's own pages, checked on 31 October 2026, make it cheap to test. The plugin is free with no paid plan. Packs are bought once with free updates: the Essential Motion Bro Transitions Bundle is $41, and the 10K transitions bundle $112 (shown against $333). One purchase code covers two devices, and projects built with its presets open on a computer without the plugin. It needs After Effects 2021 or Premiere Pro 2022 or newer, on Windows or macOS.
So start with a free pack on a real project, and test it on a sequence that already carries effects, since that's where the freezes were reported. Our best After Effects extensions roundup sets Motion Bro beside the other preset libraries.
What does Reddit suggest instead of Motion Bro?
One thread asked for something like Motion Bro but for effects such as small zooms, bounces, static and filters, and one detailed reply listed the options (thread, reply):
- Film Impact, inside Premiere. Two replies say Film Impact is now built into Premiere Pro; one puts it at about 100 effects and transitions in Premiere Pro 26 (one, two). We haven't checked that against Adobe's release notes.
- Template plugins with free and paid packs: BadFX, AtomX, Premiere Composer, MyFX and Motion Factory. Premiere Composer is now Animation Composer, whose free plan has over 1,000 assets; see our Animation Composer comparison.
- Effect suites: Boris FX Continuum and Sapphire, Maxon Red Giant and ProductionCrate.
Nobody said which of these is best. AEJuice, the other big pack library, never appears in Motion Bro threads either; our AEJuice Reddit summary covers what people say about it.
What do commenters say to try before reaching for a plugin?
Learn the plain way first, and keep your sequence clean. The advice in these threads is practical:
- Know the manual version. The parallax thread ended with a by-hand method using 3D layers and a camera, and the view that doing it by hand is the way (comment). If you know how an effect is built, a broken preset is a quick fix rather than a dead end.
- Test on a fresh sequence. Try a new pack in an empty or lightly edited sequence before trusting it on a client timeline (comment).
- Go to the maker for paid packs. One reply says a purchase gives you Motion Bro's support (comment); another says its Discord is a better bet than Reddit (comment).
A 2024 question about burn transitions shows the point: the poster was already building them by hand, cutting stock clips and adding sound, and wanted a pack only to skip the repetition (post). That's the right reason to buy one.
Where mouzeclick fits (our view)
This part is ours, not Reddit's: mouzeclick isn't mentioned in any of the 17 threads, and we make it.
mouzeclick isn't a pack library, so it won't replace Motion Bro's 10K transitions. It's a set of tools with some transitions included. On Windows and Mac, mouzetrans puts 11 transitions on Premiere Pro cuts and mouzeflow puts 15 between After Effects layers. For the small zooms and bounces asked about above, mouzezoom adds zooms, callouts and blur to screen recordings (our Premiere Pro auto zoom guide shows it), and mouzestate animates up to 40 clips between a start look and an end look, with 15 ready looks. In After Effects, mouzecam's camera rig includes a parallax move. It's a camera move, so it works on layers you've already separated, like the by-hand method above; it doesn't build depth from a flat photo. All 22 extensions are on the extensions page, and the all-in-one Premiere Pro extension guide covers the Premiere side.
- Price. One plan: $25 a month, $249 a year or $499 once for one of the first 100 lifetime keys, which works for as long as mouzeclick runs. There's a 3-day trial with no card. See the pricing section.
- Limits. 26 transitions against Motion Bro's 10,000, and no pack store. One key runs on one computer at a time, where a Motion Bro code covers two devices. We don't promise that every project opens on a computer without mouzeclick, so check before handing one off. It needs an internet connection while it runs, and auto captions and the workspaces are Windows only.
Try mouzetrans and mouzeflow for 3 days, no card, next to your Motion Bro packs. One plan with everything included, $25 a month, or $249 for a year.
Questions people ask
What does Reddit suggest when Premiere Pro freezes with Motion Bro?
Nothing confirmed. Two threads report Premiere hanging after a transition is applied, one on Motion Bro 5.1.0. Commenters say it fails on clips that already carry effects such as distort or wiggle, and behaves best in new, lightly edited sequences. Replies point to Motion Bro's Discord and support page. Save first: one commenter found undo didn't restore a wiped timeline.
Do I have to relink a Motion Bro preset every time?
No, once per preset, according to a reply in the r/premiere thread where Link Media fixed it. Right-click the preset showing the missing-footage graphic, choose Link Media, and point it at the matching .aegraphic file in the pack's folder under Documents › Motion Bro. After that the preset should find its footage on its own.
How do I fix the generic importer error with Motion Bro?
Try selecting both clips before applying the transition. A commenter in r/premiere says the error appears when a preset is dropped straight onto the timeline instead of applied to a selected pair. The poster had already cleared the cache without luck and never said whether this worked. If it persists, Motion Bro's support page is the next stop, as another reply suggests.
Why do Motion Bro transitions move my footage to the side?
The one answer on Reddit suggests the effect behind the transition is shorter than the transition, so the clip snaps back when it ends. Drag the effect out on the timeline so its keyframes run past the cut. The poster, editing a vertical video, had already tried nesting the sequences and didn't confirm the fix.
Is Motion Bro free?
The plugin is. Motion Bro's site says it charges no fee and has no paid plans; you pay once for preset packs, such as the $41 Essential bundle or the 10K transitions bundle at $112, as shown on 31 October 2026, and updates are free. Free packs exist too: Reddit posts mention Light Transitions, Stretch and MacFX.
Is Motion Bro made by Mister Horse?
No. Motion Bro's site says it's powered by Videolancer, and it isn't on Mister Horse's product pages. The mix-up is easy to make: both are free panels that sell preset content, and one r/premiere poster had Mister Horse's control surface installed next to Motion Bro while chasing a freeze. Mister Horse makes Animation Composer, formerly Premiere Composer.
Does Motion Bro AI Parallax make a real 3D model, according to Reddit?
No. A commenter in r/AfterEffects explains that it projects your photo onto a depth map, so you get slight parallax, but a bigger push-in distorts. The buyer who exported a GLB file from it saw swirling artefacts in After Effects. For more movement, separate the photo into layers and move a camera through them in 3D.
Does Reddit recommend mouzeclick instead of Motion Bro?
No. mouzeclick has no mentions in the 17 Motion Bro threads or 34 comments we read. The only alternatives Redditors name are Film Impact, BadFX, AtomX, Premiere Composer, MyFX, Motion Factory and a few effect suites, almost all from one comment. Our own view of where mouzeclick fits, limits included, is in the section above.
